This is so obviously relevant that little needs to be said. It is the mirror image and co-equal of the human rights organization and the legal department of the labor union. Its job is to get the truth into the media, to present the case in the “court of public opinion”. It is the most effective weapon against the politicization of the courts. Enough said. Beyond that, Israel has always presented its case badly but in recent years, it has become positively perverse. The Israeli media and even the diplomatic corps are filled with the self-loathing of the extreme anti-Zionists. The budget in the Foreign Ministry was never adequate, but Shimon Peres, when he was Foreign Minister, eliminated the function altogether, saying that if one has good policy, there is no need for hasbarah. "Good policy" means policy that meets with the approval of non-Jewish world opinion; namely, foreign governments and media. We know what that means: it definitively does not include Jews defending themselves.
