The Jewish people, both in Israel and the Diaspora, face a deep leadership crisis. For over a century, leaders of major Jewish institutions have misled us and fail us in many ways.

"WE HAVE TO DO IT OURSELVES."
The members of the Hashkem group have thought about the problem for several years, separately at first and finally joining together as a group. [See About Us] We identify several sources of the dysfunction of the Jewish people. We have devised a plan that will enable the all The Jewish People to reconstruct our society and its national reality.
The Jewish population in Eretz Yisrael is essentially healthy and has a strong instinct for self-preservation. The government, however, is controlled by a classically entrenched ruling elite that is alienated from its Jewish source and completely absorbed into a rootless and self-serving, cosmopolitan clique that seeks power for its own sake.
This ruling elite controls the Israeli economy and all the institutions of power and influence: the banks, the stock exchange, the media, the universities, publishing houses, the intellectual establishment in general, the courts and the legal profession, the general staff of the military and the police and criminal justice system.
That is why policy remains unchanged no matter who wins elections. That is why the media (which are controlled by the government) serve the establishment agenda and mindsets like Pravda served Stalin. No government can effect change unless and until power is dispersed to other sectors of the society. For this reason Hashkem was created and its plan formulated.
Israel’s cosmopolitan elite has been party to the psychological warfare waged against us which has been intensive. Anyone who wants to sell Israel out or destroy the Jews will receive generous help from the world, along with international honor and prestige. Such groups receive generous funding from the European Union, the State Department, the Ford Foundation and many other sources directly. They might even receive funding secretly from the Arab countries as well.
The spiritual and psychological collapse of the elite has brought us the virulent self-hatred called “Post-Zionism” and the other spiritual depredations of the Oslo process? What is left of Zionist intentions? The most dedicated Jewish nationalists have been vilified and marginalized as “extremists” and “fanatics,” brutally uprooted from their homes and communities and left to rot in makeshift transit stops, while the government purveys the lie that each and every family received in hand hundreds of thousands of dollars in compensation. So far, the victory of the enemy is only tactical, not strategic. Not yet. There is still time to reverse our fortunes and embrace our destiny.
Jewish people against the concerted hatred of a world hostile to our very existence. Self-hatred is part of what it means to be a victim of bigotry. To the extent that we get our self-image from the people around us, we internalize the warped image of the bigots who hate us. Without a source of a true picture of who and what we are, it’s like growing up in a hall full of distorted mirrors. We believe we look like the distorted reflection we see in them. At best, we know it is not true but we have no idea what we really look like. We have found no source of truth about ourselves, except Torah, which can counteract the world’s bigotry over the long haul. (Click to continue top right column)

HASHKEM needs people to participate at every level. We need people who can translate our web site and materials into Hebrew, Russian, French and Spanish. We need writers and presenters. We need people to organize classes, labor unions and local work groups, to participate in community interactions and get our representatives invited to speak before Jewish groups in Israel and abroad. We need people who will accept responsibility to act on the points of the plan and recruit people to them. We at HASHKEM are working full time to establish functioning organizations. The work can not be done solely by volunteers in their spare time. Volunteer organizations do not have the necessary staying power.
Meanwhile, be strong, be vigilant, be true to the principles which our sages have taught us. Be victorious. And may we merit, very soon, to greet Mashiah in Jerusalem Rebuilt.
The word Hashkem depicts the activity of people who arise early before the sun and set out with heavy burdens on long journeys. It pictures the tenacity and the longsuffering, steadfast endurance of the farmer. It suggests the devotion, dedication, and dogged determination of the Olympic athlete.
This one word conveys the very essence of the outcome we want. It does not translate into English. If you want to know what is special about a culture, look to the words that cannot be translated into another language. "Hashkem" is one of them. The noun form of the same verb, “hashkamah,” is the name of the last watch of the night, the one that straddles dawn and sunrise. It is commonly the name of the early morning minyan. When Avraham was commanded to offer up his son, Yitzhak, the Text says (Gen. 22.3) “Vayashkem Avraham baboqer” --- Avraham “hashkam” (same verb, ordinary past tense) in the morning (and saddled his donkey, etc). He arose, with zeal and enthusiasm and vigor and determination to do the thing that God had commanded. “Hashkem” is in the form of a command. In the Talmud there is a dictum, "If someone comes to kill you, “hashkem” and kill him (first)." Be zealous and act decisively with vigor and determination to preempt him.” It is the diametric opposite of depression. It is the secret weapon of the Jews.
